Maria Noyes, CCCE

Pregnancy and birth have been a passion of mine since I took a class at the University of Vermont titled "The Sociology of Birth". For many years I considered my interest in birth "a hobby", and learned all I could about it. After the birth of my son in 2009 I fully realized my passion for supporting women and families in the transformative process of becoming parents. After the birth of my daughter in 2011 I learned how true it is that with every child you are becoming a new parent all over again, because you have never parented this child.
I believe that every family has their own truth, and that it is the job of the birth keepers to support families in finding it. It is my intention to honor and respect that. I believe that birth can be an empowering experience for both women and their partners. I believe it is a monumental moment in a family’s story, and it is the responsibility of the birth worker to provide the most accurate information and most helpful tools so that each woman can choose the birth that is right for her.
I am a CAPPA certified childbirth educator (CCCE), trained birth and postpartum doula. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Vermont, with a minor in women’s studies. My formal education provided a solid foundation for working with pregnant and parenting families, and birth. I have nearly ten years of experience working with teen mothers in community based mental health services, and have been attending births for the past two years.
I live in beautiful Montpelier, Vermont with my husband and two children, both born at home. I enjoy growing and making food, making wine, writing, reading and spending time with my family and friends. I serve on the board of local nonprofit, Mama Says and am a part of the Central VT Breastfeeding Coalition.
